Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha
Depart Arusha at 8:00 am for a 30-minute drive to Arusha National Park. Here you will participate in a half-day walking safari and a half-day game drive. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger for the walk, who will guide you through the forest and up to the waterfall to the black and white Colobus monkey viewpoint. During the game drive, you will see the seven Lakes of Momella and the Ngurduto Crater. At sunset, you will drive back to The Charity Hotel for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 2: Arusha - Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you will make your way from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is famous for its dense wildlife population, which is most spectacular between June and September (the dry period). During this time, thousands of animals (including wildebeest, buffalo and oryx) migrate from the dry Maasai steeple to the Tarangire River looking for water. Lions, leopards and other predators follow the herds. Tarangire is also home to over 500 varieties of birds. Have lunch and go on a late afternoon game drive before returning for dinner and your overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park - Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast in Maramboi Lodge, we will drive on a tarmac road for 40km with a lunch box in hand to Lake Manyara National Park. We will depart immediately on an afternoon game drive. You will begin the game drive in a “groundwater forest” before proceeding through acacia woodland, open savanna and hot springs. Lake Manyara itself is home to many flamingos and other water birds. Mammals found here include tree-climbing lions, hippos, elephants, zebras, buffalos, giraffes, baboons, blue and velvet monkeys, warthogs and others. About 350 species of birds have been recorded here. You will have a picnic lunch, dinner, and your overnight stay at Ngorongoro Farm House.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater
Today you will leave very early in the morning (after an early breakfast) and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater floor. There, we will have a full-day game drive and a picnic lunch. You will descend more than 2000 feet on steep tracks cut into the crater wall to reach the open plains of the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is undoubtedly the best place in Tanzania to view black rhinos as well as large prides of lions that include the magnificent black-maned males. It is also home to huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and many other plains game. An alkaline lake on the floor of the crater provides a habitat for colourful flamingos and a variety of other water birds. Massive bull elephants feed in the swamps—some adorned with enormous tusks. We will have our picnic lunch at the hippo pool and then go on an afternoon drive to Lake Ndutu for dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 5: Lake Ndutu
Early in the morning, we will leave the lodge with a breakfast box in hand for a morning game drive to explore the great migration in southern Serengeti. Return to the lodge for lunch and some mid-day relaxation before you depart on another game drive in search of herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra.
